Introduction

The Sales and Discounts section of the admin lets you create various offers for your customers to use. We provide you with a number of options that allows you to create sales for any occasion and purpose.

To access the Sales & Discounts menu, click the Catalogue Menu and select Manage Sales & Discounts:

Once loaded, you will see a list of active and inactive sales (green tick = active, grey = inactive):

If you want to change a status of a sale from active to inactive (or vice versa), simply click the green/grey tick.

Adding A Sale or Discount

To add a sale, click the Add a New Offer box in the top right corner (see the image above). The following page will show the options available:

Overview Tab

Offer Name: Type the name of your offer here. Be specific with your offer name as it will help your customers understand what exactly the offer is. This is a required field.

Offer Type: Choose one of the five options available by clicking the radio button on the left-hand side. Whichever option you choose will show certain menus on the left-hand side of the screen. You will need to complete each section before saving in order to apply the sale or discount.

Criteria Tab

Basic Sales work by changing the price of the products, rather than applying a discount to them.

Basic Sale Criteria:

There are three fields allowing you to set the discount value, followed by what type of discount and whether the discount should be taken from the selling price or the RRP:

For example, here you can set a 25% Price Discount off Price Column
Discount Codes Criteria:

You will see 5 fields allowing you to set the value needed to be spent or the number of products needed to be bought to be entitled to the discount.  You will also set how much the discount is for and whether that is price or percentage based.

For example, here we have set spend £100 for £10 off at the checkout

You can select the products that need to be included in the buy criteria in the tab “Applicable Products”.

Multi-buy Offers (buy 2 for £20) Criteria:

You will see 6 fields allowing you to set the amount of products that need to be bought for the offer to start, whilst also choosing which products will be discounted and whether that is a price/percentage discount or a fixed price. You are also able to give away a free product by selecting 'Specific Product(s)' in the drop-down.

An example sale could be 'Buy 3 Products, get the cheapest one free'

Multi-buy Offers (spend £50 to get a free product) Criteria:

You will see 6 fields allowing you to set the value needing to be spent for the offer to start, whilst also choosing which product will be discounted and whether that is a price/percentage discount or a fixed price. You are also able to give away a free product by selecting 'Specific Product(s)' in the drop-down.

An example sale could be 'Spend £50 get 1 free product automatically added to the basket'

Postage Discount Criteria:

With the postage discount, you will need to complete the Criteria & Postage/Courier tab.

The Criteria tab will ask you to choose how much the customer will need to spend or the number of products they will need to purchase before this offer becomes available.

The customer will need to spend £100 before this postage offer will be available.

In the Postage/Courier tab, you will be able to select the courier that will be discounted.

In this scenario, all couriers will be free

If you do select “Any”, this could include international shipping. You can blacklist/Whitelist the delivery address used in the Applcable Countries section.

Dates

In this section, you will see today’s date in the start date field and an opportunity to choose an end date.  The calendar symbol allows you to choose both your own start and end dates.

Alternatively, if you use times, you will be asked to attach a timer of when you would like the sales and discount to start and stop. These can be set up within the Content section.

A basic sale does not have a date section.

Discount Code

In this section, you can set your discount code if relevant to the offer.  This code must be entered at the checkout stage for the discount to be applied. If you leave the discount code field empty, the discount will automatically apply at the checkout if the customer's purchase meets the criteria.

Sash Overlay

In this section, you can attach one of your product sashes to the product image.  Click the sash you would like to add to the products.  You can also upload your own product sashes within the Catalogue menu which would link into this section.

Additional Options

In this section, you can tick a number of options, along with setting the maximum number of times that the offer can be used.

Include sale items in offer:

Tick this option if you would like to include items that are already on sale. If left unticked, the system will not allow a discount to be applied on top of this sale.

Exclude non-sale items in offer:

This would only ever be ticked if you were wanting to create a sale purely for sale items. If you are wanting to do this, you will need to tick the option above. This can be compared to when Debenhams run a blue cross sale; where it is a sale on sale items only.

Should this offer be displayed on the basket page:

Tick this if you want the system to advertise to customers on the basket page that they are close to meeting the criteria for an offer:

Mark Applicable products as sale:

This is a retired function and doesn't need to be used.

Hide Applicable products from the sale page:

Tick this box if you would like to hide the items from the sale page of your website.  They would still be marked as sale within their individual departments.

Maximum uses:

Enter the number of times you would like this offer to be used in total. Placing a -1 (minus 1) in this field will be classed as unlimited uses.

Maximum uses per customer:

Enter the number of times each customer can use this offer.  Placing -1 (minus 1) in this field will be classed as unlimited uses.

Maximum uses per basket:

Enter the number of times each customer can apply this offer to the current basket of products on the website. Placing -1 (minus 1) in this field will be classed as unlimited uses.

Applicable Products Section

Here you can select the products, departments, brands and tag groups that you would like to include in the sale.

Please note: By selecting multiple areas to apply the sale to, it will not filter the products down to those that apply to both. For example, if you choose 'Mens' department and 'Hugo Boss' brand; the sale will apply to everything in the Mens department and everything associated to the Hugo Boss brand. It will not be just Hugo Boss men's clothing.

For discount codes and postage offers you can choose no products and this will incorporate every product.  All other offers require you to manually choose the products you want to include.

Applicable Departments:

Choose which departments you would like to include using the drop-down list followed by clicking on add.

Note: This will mean that all products within that department will be part of the sale/discount.

Applicable Brands:

Choose which brands you would like to include using the drop-down list followed by clicking add.

Note: This will mean that all products within that Brand will be part of the sale/discount.

Applicable Tags:

Choose which tags you would like to include using the drop-down list followed by clicking add.

Note: This will mean that all products that are assigned to that Tag will be part of the sale/discount.

Applicable products:

Choose which individual products you would like to include by clicking ‘add products’ which will be highlighted.  After you click it you will be presented with a screen allowing you to use filters to find which products you would like to add manually.  To add the product, place a tick next to the product on the left-hand side and click ok.

Applicable Customers

In this section, you can connect certain customer groups to only receive the discount you have created.

Applicable Countries

In this section, you can choose the countries where this sales and discount can be connected to, this works on a whitelist/blacklist basis. You also have the ability to choose if this is applied against the shipping address or the billing address.

Discount restriction

In this section, you can choose to blacklist/whitelist the sale and discount to only work in conjunction with other sales or not in conjunction with other sales and discounts. This section is mainly used to make sure two discount codes don’t work together.

This is a setting and may not be on your platform. If this is the case, please reach out to Visualsoft and this can be added to your platform.

Summary

You will now have a better understanding of the different sales and discounts that can be created on the platform and understand how to make them.
