Overview
eBay said: '... when listing on any EU or UK site, always provide the gross price and the VAT rate you used to calculate the gross price. Where eBay has to collect VAT on your sales to EU or UK buyers, eBay will add it to your listing price net of your indicated VAT rate. This ensures that we can always display the correct VAT-inclusive price to EU or UK buyers and that eBay doesn't collect VAT on an already-VAT inclusive price, which would make your listing uncompetitive. If you did not apply VAT, you can leave this field empty. Where eBay has to collect VAT, we will add this on top of your listing price.’
If you are EU or Uk VAT registered
This means that, if you are registered for EU or UK VAT, you should:
Provide to eBay the gross price with a separate VAT rate when listing to any EU or UK site - eBay will work out the net price from your provided price and rate
eBay will calculate the VAT payable by the buyer, based on the VAT rate of the item sold in the buyer’s delivery country, and add this to the net price they have calculated
eBay will then remit the net amount to you, and the VAT amount to the appropriate tax authority
If you do not provide a VAT rate on the listing, eBay will add on VAT on top of the listing price that you have sent
There are very clear examples on eBay’s help page with calculations based on what price / VAT rate is sent and what they will charge the customer. If you are in any doubt about what VAT rate to send, please contact eBay or a tax adviser.
eBay Pricing Guidance
The price that we send to eBay depends on your settings. This can be influenced by:
The price you have chosen to use (eg. sale price, RRP price etc)
Modifiers you may have implemented
Any manual pricing you may have set up
For international listings, by default your pricing will be your website price including your VAT rate from your website, eg. if your product has 20% VAT in the RRP & Cost tab, your international eBay listings will include this in the price. The price will then be converted to the local currency.
1) Where Does the Price Pull From?
You can choose which price we use for your eBay listings on a store-by-store basis.
a) Go to Channels > eBay > Manage eBay Stores
b) Click on Manage next to the relevant store
c) Click on the Settings tab on the left-hand side
The Store Price Field is NOT the selling price. This is what would be used as any strikethrough, or before price.
The Store Price Sale Field is the selling price. You can choose where to pull your eBay pricing from.
This setting can be different per store. Just click on manage next to each store to review the settings for that store.
Select the price you want to use and click on Save. If your prices are set to sync with eBay, this will prompt a price update to eBay.
2) Sync Pricing / Modifiers
A modifier would show like this at the top of your listing form if you have one implemented
This example above would sync your pricing with your website and add 10% on to that pricing.
The sync price setting/modifier on new listings is determined by your default settings at the time the products are listed:
1) Go to Channels > eBay > Manage eBay Stores
2) Click on Manage next to the store you want to change the sync option / add/remove the modifier for
3) Go to the Defaults tab
4) Click on edit next to Global Default
5) Amend the value in the Sync With Website Price field. You can choose whether to use a value or percentage increase or decrease. If you want to reduce your price, input a minus sign before the number eg. -10 would deduct 10% from your pricing.
To change your price sync options or add/remove a modifier for existing listings, you can do this via the eBay Bulk Manage page
1) Go to Channels > eBay > Bulk eBay Product Manage on the left-hand side menu
2) Make sure the bulk page is set to the correct store using the 'Select eBay Store' drop-down in the top right
3) Filter by the relevant listings using the filters
4) Click on Show/Hide next to eBay Bulk Value Overrides
5) Select 'Sync Price' - this will pop up a box underneath with the Sync Price options
6) Make sure the sync price is set to 'Yes' if you want to sync your prices with VS. If you want to set manual prices, or do not want your prices on eBay to continue to change if your website prices change, set this to ‘No’
7) Set the modifier to the value that you want
8) Tick the 'Select All X Products in Filter' tick box
9) On the dropdown, select ‘Save Automation Settings’
10) This will prompt a recalculation of your prices and prices will update on eBay automatically
3) Manual Pricing
You can also set up manual pricing for your eBay listings. This would require price sync to be set to No, and then you can input the pricing of your choice per listing. If you currently have your price sync set to No and want to start syncing your prices, you can change this using the bulk tool as above.
eBay VAT Rates
The VAT rate field will already be filled in as default depending on the VAT rate on your VS product. This will have already been input as default so this field is likely already populated on your listings with a VAT rate that will enable eBay to work out your net price.
eBay will calculate a net price based on the VAT rate provided and deduct this from the gross price sent to work out the net price. From there they will add on the VAT rate they believe to be correct for the listing.
1) Setting the VAT Rate for New Listings
The VAT rate field is on your listing form. You can amend the VAT rate that is pre-filled in this field for new eBay listings by amending your default settings:
1) Go to Channels > eBay > Manage eBay Stores
2) Click on Manage next to the store you want to change the default VAT rate for
3) Go to the Defaults tab
4) Click on edit next to Global Default
5) Amend the value in the VAT Percent field. This just needs to be a round number. You do not need to include the % sign
2) Revising the VAT Rate on Existing Listings
To revise existing listings, you will need to use the Bulk Manage Tool for eBay or revise your listings manually
1) Go to Channels >> eBay >> Bulk eBay Product Manage
2) Ensure you have selected the relevant store on the dropdown on the right-hand side
3) Filter by the products you wish to edit
4) Click on 'Show/Hide' next to ‘eBay Bulk Value Overrides'
5) Click on ‘VAT Percent' to pop up the field to allow you to edit it
6) Input your VAT percentage
7) If you are amending all listings in the filter, tick the tick box 'Select All'
8) Drop down the 'Actions' box and select 'Revise Specific Fields'
9) Highlight ‘VAT Rate’ and click on Revise
The revisions will show on the Task Manager page so you can review the progress and ensure no listings have errored.
Global Shipping Programme
To simplify the shipping process for EU orders on the UK store, you can choose to use the Global Shipping Programme (‘GSP’), whereby you ship the parcel to a UK shipping centre, and eBay handle the rest. GSP will ensure that the IOSS is correctly transmitted and that all customs charges/processes/international delivery are taken care of. All you have to do after a sale transaction is post your parcel to the UK Shipping Centre.
Please see more information here about the Global Shipping Programme
If you are using the Global Shipping Programme - where eBay is responsible for remitting VAT (up to a consignment value of EUR 150), the Global Shipping Programme will collect VAT from the buyer on behalf of eBay
Where eBay is not responsible for VAT (with a consignment value over EUR 150), Pitney Bowes will continue to clear goods into the EU on behalf of the buyer. Pitney Bowes will collect the import VAT and duty from the buyer based on the delivery country and the value of the goods and will remit the import charges to the responsible tax authorities on behalf of the buyer
For VAT-registered sellers, shipments between the UK and EU are considered export sales. eBay will remit the net amount to the seller
Applying the Global Shipping Programme to your UK listings will depend on how you set your shipping up.
If you use business policies within eBay, just amend your postage policy within eBay and the changes will take effect on listings assigned to that policy.
If you use VS to send over your shipping options, remove your own international shipping options for the UK store, and tick the Global Shipping Program tickbox instead. As above, you should do this in the defaults to impact new listings going forwards, and using the bulk tool to revise your existing listings.
