GA4

GA4

Overview

Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is a new analytics property offered by Google. It enables users to analyse data from websites, apps, or both.

GA4 creates a single user journey from all the data that is associated with the same user ID. Unlike Universal Analytics (UA), GA4 properties incorporate User ID natively across all reporting, analysis, and insights and do not require a separate User-ID reporting view.

Google still collects data in the same way, however, the way it interprets that Data has changed. Rather than having tracking based upon session or bottom-line acquisitions, GA4 is based upon events, with a big focus on Engagement/how people are interacting with & purchasing your products.

GA4 data models look at people coming in and try to match up one user across multiple devices and touchpoints - simply put, it is more streamlined and accurate. It’s a fundamentally different way of interpreting data, with Google trying to move away from cookie-based tracking.

Note: Because GA4 interprets data differently to UA the stats will also be different, there is no way to match the two properties and any YoY reporting will need to be heavily caveated. For more information, please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions.
